Assault Defense in Harnett County

Defense for assault allegations in Spring Lake, Lillington, Angier and nearby communities.

An assault allegation may turn on a brief encounter that different people remember differently. The Law Offices of Wunsch and Cruz represents people facing assault charges in Harnett County and surrounding communities. Jason Wunsch and Freddie Cruz review the allegation and its context. If you need to respond to an assault charge, discuss the allegation with our Lillington office.

What does the charging paper actually allege?

Bring the charging document rather than relying only on the word “assault.” The alleged conduct, any claimed injuries, an alleged weapon and the relationship between the people involved can all matter to the review. Your attorney can explain the specific charge and the issues the evidence needs to address.

If you live in Spring Lake, Angier or another nearby community, check which county is listed on your papers. Your residence alone does not identify the court handling the case.

Reconstructing the encounter

Useful preparation looks at what happened before, during and after the incident. Questions may include:

  • Who was present, and what could each person actually see or hear?
  • Are there messages or earlier exchanges that explain the context?
  • Do recordings cover the whole encounter or only a portion?
  • When were photographs taken, and what do they show?
  • Where do the accounts agree, differ or leave questions unanswered?

Preserve context, not just a screenshot

Keep original messages, photographs and recordings you lawfully possess, including the surrounding conversation and dates. Avoid deleting or editing material because it seems unhelpful. Tell counsel where other recordings might exist so preservation can be discussed. Provide witness names and contact information without coaching anyone's account or approaching a person in violation of an order.

What if I acted to protect myself?

Tell your attorney why you believed a response was necessary and describe the sequence as accurately as you can, including facts that may be disputed. A possible self-defense argument requires a case-specific legal assessment; the phrase alone does not resolve the allegation. Police reports, witness accounts, injuries and available recordings may help counsel evaluate that explanation.

Preparing for court and connected concerns

Bring release paperwork and any related orders as well as the charge. Raise concerns about employment, military service or family proceedings so they can be considered when discussing your options. Follow existing restrictions while seeking advice about them.

If the allegation involves a partner or family member, our domestic violence defense page explains related criminal and protective-order concerns. For broader case preparation, see Harnett criminal defense.
